SUMMER ROAD TRIP

Engstlensee, Grimsel Pass & Rhône Glacier

August 2017

I went on a three-day trip to the Alps in the beginning of august and spent the first night up on the Engstlenalp. The sunset that evening was beautiful, and I was so happy to be shooting in soft light again for the first time in a long time. Since I spent the night just a few minutes away from the lake, I got up just before sunrise to go watch the sun come up behind the mountains towering over the lake. Once again, the conditions were amazing and the colors in the sky were beautiful.

After watching the sunrise at Engstlensee, we drove up the Grimsel Pass, where we took the panoramic side road to the Oberaarsee. After this beautiful drive and a quick lunch, we started hiking to another small lake that lies just below the Sidelhorn, which I knew from that moment on I wanted to hike up to the next summer. From there, we made our way through the grass and rocks to get a better view over the valley formed by the Grimsel Glacier which once ended in the Grimselsee. The view was breathtaking and will probably be one of my favorites of the year. This day went better than we could’ve ever hoped for and I went to bed happily with one more day left on the trip.

On the last day of the trip, we went to the Rhône Glacier which is located on the Furka Pass. For some reason, glaciers are really fascinating to me and this one is unlike any other I’ve ever been to. You can actually go into the glacier and walk around in these ice tunnels they carved into the glacier. It was a unique experience and a welcome opportunity to cool down on a hot summer day. After we were done exploring the glacier, it was time to go home and start editing all the photos from the trip.
